Reflection 21 – Fourth Sunday of Advent, December 19th
REFLECT
Below is a short video to watch, but first of all a bit of background.
Rick & Dick Hoyt are a Father and Son team from America. Rick is quite severely disabled. He can’t walk or talk, or do that much without a great deal of help.
One day, Rick was watching a Triathlon on TV – a gruelling event of running, swimming and cycling – and told his family that it was something he wished he could take part in. Given his disabilities, this didn’t seem very likely, but his Father loved him and wanted him to achieve his dreams. And so, his Father, Dick, trained himself up so that he could compete in triathlons and take Rick along with him as he did. He would swim and tow Rick in a small dingy, he would run and push Rick in a wheelchair, and when he rode, he would sit rick in a special seat on the front of the bike.
It’s a fantastic story, but it also shows us how God sees us. He doesn’t see our weaknesses and what we can’t do. He sees goodness and potential in us and he loves to help us make it grow.
PRAY
Loving Father,
You love me and you see what’s good in me. You don’t look at my faults and failings, but you see me as somebody who can do so much.
May I always believe in myself and believe in others in the way you do.
Amen.
CHALLENGE
Your challenge for today is to ask yourself what gifts and talents God has given you. When God looks at you what are the things that make him smile?
